Business aviation continued its growth in 2016, according to ARGUS TraqPAK. Total business private aviation flights increased to 2,948,708 in 2016 from 2,858,445 in 2015, a 3.2% gain. Flight activity grew in 11 of 12 month during the year. The biggest increase was in large cabin planes with a 6% jump. Gulfstream G-IV airplanes saw the largest increase.
In a further breakdown, Part 91 hours grew by 2.9%, Part 91k hours increased by 2.3% and Part 135 flight hours rose 5.8% in 2016 over 2015.
The southeast region had the largest number of departures (including U.S., Canada and Caribbean) with 654,708 flights. The upper Midwest, which includes Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Minnesota was second in flights with 387,133 ahead of the southwest, which includes Arizona, California and Nevada at 377,795 flights.
Teterboro Airport (TEB) was first in international flight activity followed by Ft. Lauderdale Executive (FXE) and Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF).
