Delta Private Jets is highlighting its ownership by Delta Air Lines by offering purchasers of $250,000 jet cards two roundtrip Delta One Business Class tickets from the U.S. to Europe. Deadline is December 15, 2017.

The offer requires the purchase of a jet card with a value of $250,000 or greater. According to the offer, terms are subject to change or withdrawal at any time without prior notice.  Additional terms and conditions apply. Supply may be limited. Certificates will be provided following completion and funding of qualifying Jet Card purchase to the owner of the account.

Air travel will be awarded in the form of certificates that may be redeemed for round-trip travel on Delta. Certificate seats may not be available on all flights or in all markets. Air travel will be awarded in the form of certificates that may be redeemed for round-trip travel on Delta from any domestic airport served by Delta.

Certificates are non-transferable, are not redeemable for cash and are void if sold or bartered. Any airline tickets obtained through such sale or barter are void and will not be honored for travel. Certificates do not include the September 11th Security Fee of at least $5.60 one way which will be imposed on each direction in the passenger’s ticketed itinerary. International taxes and fees of up to $349 per person may apply.  Any taxes, fees, or charges paid at the time of airline ticket issuance will be refunded if airline ticket is not used. However, once redeemed, certificates are void and will have no further value.

Certificate travel will not qualify for SkyMiles mileage. Stopovers, upgrades, waitlisting and open returns are not permitted for airline tickets booked with certificates. Lost, stolen or otherwise destroyed certificates will not be replaced.

We value two Delta One business class tickets to Europe at somewhere between $5,000 and $20,000 taking into account typical fare sales as well as unrestricted fares. Since the certificates seem to be controlled in usage – you can’t just book any flight – a fare value would probably be somewhere in the middle.

How much does Delta Private Jets’ jet cards cost?

Delta Private Jets over the past two years has been trying to leverage its ties to a major, global commercial airline. You can use your jet card balance to purchase both commercial and private flights. You also get SkyMiles Diamond Medallion Status for purchases of $100,000 or more and 20% discount off published Delta fares in select classes. You also get transfers between commercial and private flights in a Porsche vehicle in select markets and airports.

Delta Private Jets uses a managed fleet of aircraft offering Light, Midsize, Super-Mid and Large Jet programs starting at $5,690 per hour for Light Jets in its $100,000 jet card program and dropping to $5,250 per hour at the $1 million level. Hourly rates for Large Jets range from $13,990 per hour to $12,590. All of DPJ’s over 70 aircraft have WiFi. Delta Private Jets offers rollover and refund options as well as cross-country and roundtrip discounts. There are no fuel surcharges of CPI escalators. You can also use miles you earn in the SkyMiles program for jet cards.

While it’s an interesting offer, potential restrictions on redeeming the business class tickets make it less attractive than if the certificates could be redeemed for any seat available for purchase. In light of the restrictions, we think it might have made sense for Delta to have offered a hours credit option for those buyers who don’t want the tickets. Still, if you fly to Europe, it’s an offer worth looking at.
