The guide by Magellan Jets is a good reminder that there is much more to it than price when buying a Jet Card

Magellan Jets has published a new online guide titled, “Researching Jet Cards: 7 Essential Questions Everyone Should Ask, authored by David Wyndham, president of Conklin & de Decker, an aviation consulting firm.

The Jet Card buyer’s guide provides a quick read of some of the key questions buyers should ask, including:

  1. What is the expiration date on my card?

  2. Are there blackout dates?

  3. Is there a Flight Support or Client Services department?

  4. Is there a fuel rate increase?

  5. Does the card have a pre-defined service area?

  6. Does my jet card guarantee WiFi?

  7. What if the company providing my card goes out of business?

While the guide is worthwhile to review, it misses a number of key issues such as the diversity of jet card offerings beyond the traditional 25 hour card or discussing roundtrip discounts, CPI escalators, the ability to refill your card, fleet and flight crew sourcing standards, including use of third party ratings, refund policy, insurance coverage, de-icing charges, diversion costs, daily and segment minimums, taxi time, cancellation policy, ability to upgrade or downgrade aircraft size, multiple same time use and even policies for pets and unaccompanied minors, all of which may or may not impact which Jet Card program is right for you. Still, we like the effort and are also fans of the Magellan Jets website that provides both aircraft reviews and offers a neat “build your own Jet Card” app that is interesting to play around with. We also applaud both Magellan and Wyndham for addressing the issue of financial stability, something anyone who is prepaying hundreds of thousands of dollars should research.
