ANA Business Jet is a new joint venture that will offer private jet charter service within Japan as well as to destinations in Asia

ANA Holdings, Inc. (ANA HD) and Sojitz last week announced that they will establish a new company offering private jet charter flights by ANA Business Jet Co., Ltd. Other scheduled airlines that include private jet divisions or investments include Korean Air, Hainan Airlines (sister Deer Jet), Lufthansa (via NetJets), Qatar Airways, Delta Air Lines, and JetBlue (multiple investments in JetSuite).

The new company will offer passengers direct flights from Japan and also flights connecting to scheduled ANA services mainly bound for North America and Europe. The service will drastically shorten travel time and allow passengers to travel in comfort and with privacy, according to the announcement.

Utilizing the strength of ANA’s global network that comprises 85 routes to 43 cities, and Sojitz’s expertise in travel by private jet, the two companies will offer a new and enhanced traveling experience to its passengers, both companies said.

The plan is to offer charter flights connecting from scheduled ANA flights, direct charter flights from Japan to overseas destinations, and concierge services such as ground transportation, hotels and restaurant arrangements. The company is being started with a 200 million yen investment, slightly under $2 million. ANA will utilize its corporate sales network while Sojitz brings knowledge and expertise on private jets operating charter flights departing directly from Japan to overseas destinations

ANA was founded in 1952 with two helicopters and has become the largest airline in Japan, as well as one of the most significant airlines in Asia, operating 85 international routes and 116 domestic routes. ANA has been a member of Star Alliance since 1999 and has joint venture partnerships with United Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Swiss International Airlines and Austrian Airlines.

Sojitz Corporation was formed out of the union of Nichimen Corporation and Nissho Iwai Corporation. Today, the Sojitz Group consists of approximately 400 subsidiaries and affiliates located in Japan and throughout the world, developing wide-ranging general trading company operations in a multitude of countries and regions. The broad range of sectors in which Sojitz operates includes those related to automobiles, plants, energy, mineral resources, chemicals, foodstuff resources, agricultural and forestry resources, consumer goods, and industrial parks.

There is no word yet on whether or not ANA Business Jet will offer additional programs beyond on-demand charter such as jet cards.
