Departures' editors pick Legend Award winners in private aviation

By Doug Gollan, October 1, 2019

The awards include private jet operators, luxury hotels, cruise lines, and architecturally interesting buildings

Departures, a bi-monthly magazine for American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders has published what it is calling, “The Legend Awards.” In terms of how the list was put together, the publisher states, “We’ve sourced the best of the best in luxury offerings in the travel industry this year. And we’re sharing our insights with you.”

The magazine continues that winners “facilitate an over-the-top luxurious experience. They make business travel easier and more immediate, they expose travelers to far-flung destinations, and they do it all while caring for your every need.”

Winners in The Best Private Transportation category and reason for being selected are as follows:

Delta Private Jets

“With access to nearly 1,000 light to long-range jets and a fleet of more than 70, Delta Private Jets has the flexibility to charter one-way flights on demand and pay as you go. They also have two tiers of membership—Sky Access and Delta Private Jets Card.”

Flexjet

“Flexjet service has the Red Label dedicated crew difference, which means specific flight crews are tied to specific jets. This way, as a returning customer or fractional owner, you can make sure you fly with your preferred crew, who can get to know your unique travel tastes.”

NetJets

“In September 2019, NetJets debuted their newest partnership with Northrop & Johnson, a luxury yacht industry leader. NetJets owners will now be able to charter yachts and access selected Northrop & Johnson’s VIP experiences.”

VistaJet

VistaJet facilitates a luxury private flying experience for you, your family and friends, and your furry companion. Their VistaPet program is designed with guidance from veterinary practitioners, groomers, dieticians, and coaches to tailor your pet’s experience to their travel needs.”

Wheels Up

“Wheels Up has three private jet membership options—one specifically catering to business passengers. With a members-only fleet of 90 jets, they can be requested with 24 hours notice, now through the Wheels Up App.”

JSX (formerly JetSuiteX)

“Jet travel becomes attainable for the everyday flier with JSX. JSX (sister of JetSuite, which sells jet cards and on-demand charter) currently flies from private terminals at seven airports: Burbank (BUR), Oakland (OAK), Napa/Concord (CCR), Orange County (SNA), Las Vegas (LAS), Seattle-Boeing Field (BFI), and their newest addition as of August, Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX). You’d book much the same way you’d reserve a flight through your preferred airline or credit card—the difference is, you jet to your destination in style and can arrive for your flight 20 minutes before departure.”
