Used Private Jet sales rebound in July

By Doug Gollan, August 24, 2020

With 103 closed sales, July saw more pre-owned private jet sales than April and May combined

The rebound or private jet travel is now being mirrored by a rebound in used aircraft sales. According to the International Aircraft Dealers Association (IADA), its members closed 103 deals in July. That compares to 74 transactions in June, 47 in May, and 53 in April.

“Our dealers reported exceptionally brisk activity in June and July after a protracted period in March, April and May where the deals were much harder to put together,” said IADA Executive Director Wayne Starling. “IADA dealers also experienced a reduced percentage of deals where lowered prices were integral to completing the deal.”

After 46 owners lowered prices in May, only 37 reduced asking price in June, dropping to 34 in July.

The number of deals under contract has also been growing. From 66 in May, they increased to 93 in June and remained at 87 in July.

IADA members represent just 3% of whole aircraft dealers. However, they account for over 60% of all pre-owned aircraft sales globally.

The news comes amid reports that the U.S. private jet travel recovery has stalled.

Current pre-owned aircraft listings range for a 1960 Aero Commander 500B to a 2020 Bombardier Global 6500.

Other recent used private jet models include a 2020 Gulfstream G550, and from 2019, a Bombardier Learjet 75, HondaJet Elite, Global 7500, and Challenger 350.

If you are looking for something a bit bigger, there’s a 2015 Boeing 787-9. Despite its age, it carries just 16 hours of ferry flights. The aircraft is green, meaning you have a blank canvas to make the interior your own.
