The win was for Air Charter Service’s involvement in the firefighting effort to rescue an oil tanker that Houthi militants attacked.
Air Cargo News has awarded its Air Cargo Charter Project of the Year to Air Charter Service.
The ceremony was held earlier this month at the Royal Lancaster London Hotel.
The win was for Air Charter Service’s involvement in the firefighting effort to rescue an oil tanker, which had been targeted, attacked, and boarded by Houthi militants, leaving the ship on fire and stricken in the Red Sea.
A UK insurance firm contacted Air Charter Service to aid in the transportation of the necessary firefighting equipment.
After the fire was extinguished, it transported specialist oil-salvaging equipment from Singapore and Europe to remove the ship’s remaining oil.
Air Charter Service Cargo Director in London, James Cristofoli, said:
‘In all, my team chartered 12 aircraft, ranging from AN-12s to B747S, over the course of the operation. The cargo was a mixture of oversized cargo, consolidated firefighting equipment, and foam to extinguish the flames. The overall project was a success, averting a major ecological disaster, and we were privileged to have been called upon to play our part. To be honored further with this award, voted for by an independent panel of 11 esteemed judges, is an added bonus.’
Air Charter Service arranges over 30,000 charter flights a year.
That includes private jet charter flights, including its jet card programs.
