You want to carefully evaluate your exposure with jet card programs, both for any refunds or expirations if the situation doesn’t work out and for policies for renewing and continuing the relationship if you are happy with the results. Expiration and refund policies, especially, vary between companies offering jet card programs. Most programs offer a no-expiration date policy on the contract, some limit the program (most commonly to 18 to 24 months) and some let you roll-over an unused balance into a new or renewed card program contract. Similarly, refund policies range from full unrestricted refunds of an unused balance at any time with no restrictions, to refunds with restrictions, to no refunds at all, to, again, a rollover policy for an unused balance of funds or hours.

Policies for refilling or re-upping a jet card program range from unrestricted renewals at any time, including adding hours proportionally (to say, fill out the hours needed for a final trip) or even changing levels of membership to waiting until existing hours are depleted before replenishing.

Of course, operating aircraft engenders a fair amount of risk and the necessity for liability coverage. All of the companies profiled carry multi-millions of dollars of coverage, some as a blanket policy, some in addition to liability coverage of jets they operate within their own owned or managed fleet.
