Serial entrepreneur Matt Liotta founded Volato in 2021 as a HondaJet very light jet program.
The company announced a fractional program for the Gulfstream G280 super-midsize jet in September 2022.
In September 2024, it announced it had agreed to transfer management of its flight operations, fractional, and jet card business to FlyExclusive.
It continued selling its empty-leg Vaunt subscriptions.
In October 2026, Volato said it was rebranding as SOAR AI after merging with Alignment Engine, Inc.
Volato’s original structure decoupled fractional ownership from usage.
Owners buy a share but can fly as many or as few hours per year as they wish.
Owners also received a charter rebate based on all hours flown on their tail, including their own flight hours.
Flights were conducted under Part 135 rules, which means a 7.5% Federal Excise Tax.
