Flexjet will be winding down 2019 in the posh winter confines of Aspen where through Friday it is again an official sponsor of the Aspen World Snow Polo Championship, the sixth year.
While owners will be offered an array of VIP hospitality, there will also be a chance to root for the Flexjet team, which is being led by Melissa Ganzi.
In January, making only her fourth appearance in the only high goal polo tournament played on snow, Ganzi became the first woman to win the tournament and was named Best Playing Patron this past January, according to Grand Champion Polo Club News.
Flexjet also announced it will sponsor Ganzi and the team for 2020.
“Polo has long been called the sport of kings, and it is a passion of many of our owners,” said Megan Wolf, Flexjet’s chief operating officer.
She continued, “We are pleased to sponsor the Aspen World Snow Polo Championship, the final stop on the yearlong polo circuit and the only event of its kind in North America.”
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for polo fans to have a quick getaway before the holidays in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and has become a seasonal tradition among many of our owners,” Wolf noted.
Each year, more Flexjet customers travel to Aspen from locations across the globe as the festival’s popularity continues to increase, the company said.
The event begins today with competition at the Aspen Valley Polo Club and Rio Grande Park on each of the next three days, climaxing with the final on December 20.
The championship match will be followed by a VIP party in the heated tent adjacent to the snow-covered polo field. If you are flying with Flexjet, you will have exclusive access to all events.
The Flexjet Polo Team will be among six teams competing in this year’s World Snow Polo Championship.
If you were thinking polo seems challenging as a sport, snow polo adapts the game for wintry conditions, with a smaller field, three-player teams, cleated horseshoes for better traction and a larger, lighter ball colored red for visibility.
Polo is one of Flexjet’s growing areas of lifestyle partnerships.
In addition to Aspen and St. Moritz, the sport also is played in other venues including Bariloche, Argentina and Cortina, Italy.
Luckily, in a press release, Flexjet points out, “These destinations can be reached directly from North America via Flexjet’s fleet of long-range private jets including the Bombardier Global Express, Gulfstream G450, and G650.”
Earlier this year Flexjet announced it was selling shares in its G650 on a by-the-day basis.
