After disclosing his wife’s battle with cancer on LinkedIn last month, Tommy Sowers is resigning from FlyExclusive to focus on his family.
Tommy Sowers, the President of FlyExclusive, is resigning, effective April 11th.
Recently, Sowers posted on his LinkedIn page that the cancer his wife has been battling had advanced.
In a message to employees earlier today, Sowers (pictured right with Founder and CEO Jim Segrave) wrote, “My family needs me through my wife’s cancer treatment. While I love my work family, my family comes first, and I hope you understand. ”
During his tenure, the company continued its expansion, expanded its MRO facilities, and became publicly traded via a SPAC IPO.
In the internal note, Sowers said, “[W]hile it is easy to be impressed with our exceptional campus, the magnificent planes and refurbishment, or the tech that didn’t exist now being utilized throughout the company, what stands out as truly different are the people that power this company.”
Sowers joined FlyExclusive in July 2021.
Before joining the operator, he served as the Southeast region lead for innovation for the U.S. Department of Defense.
Previously, he was co-founder and CEO of GoldenKey and a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.
A U.S. Army Green Beret combat veteran, Sowers was Assistant Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Sowers also thanked the company’s executive team for their support.
He added, “Jim (Segrave) is a visionary, and it’s been an honor to help carry out his vision: to make FlyExclusive the nation’s first vertically integrated private aviation company.
