A 252% increase in private jet flight activity during The Open helped keep worldwide flying flat as a 12 week streak of gains ended.
The 12-week streak of year-over-year gains in worldwide private jet flight activity ended in Week 29 as the 77,336 flights were flat compared to 2024.
For the week ended July 20, 2025, it marked a 1% sequential increase.
For the year, private jet segments were up 26 times, down twice, and have now been essentially tied three times.
WingX Managing Director Richard Koe warned the bears, “Despite some softness in mature markets this week, the fundamental drivers of business aviation remain intact.”
He told industry wolves, “We’re seeing healthy fleet utilization and geographic expansion that suggest the industry remains on its sustainable growth trajectory.”
So far in July, private jet departures are up 3.6% outpacing the 2.2% increase in active business jets, which stood at 18,354.
In the U.S., segments (50,350) were down 2% year-over-year.
The biggest U.S. states each saw decreases compared to 2024.
Florida (-6%), California (-2%), and Texas (-2%) each experienced activity levels below those of Week 29 in 2024.
Europe (14,901 segments) was down 1%.
Koe noted there was a wide disparity with the top European markets.
While Italy saw a 7% increase compared to last year, Germany experienced a 25% decline.
Koe adds:
‘Historically, professional golf major tournaments drive business jet traffic to nearby airports, and The Open Championship held at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland this year was no different. The three closest airports to Royal Portrush are Belfast International, City of Derry, and George Best Belfast City, which saw 88 combined flights from 16 – 20 July, a 252% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Belfast International saw the greatest traffic at 45 flights 16 – 20 July, up 221% year-on-year.’
South America (+29%) and Africa (+20% saw big year-over-year jumps for the week.

Europe (10,792 segments) also experienced a 2% decline compared to last year.
South America was a bright spot with a 15% year-over-year gain.
However, at 39 total charter and fractional flights for the week, it did little to move the needle.
