A Q2 analysis of the preowned business aircraft market highlights transaction growth and continued inventory tightening across most segments.

The report by industry analyst AMSTAT shows that preowned business aircraft transactions increased 11.2% year over year in Q2.

A separate report from IADA brokers showed preowned private jet sales were up 21% increase over the first half of 2026 compared to last year.

Overview and segments

Preowned business aircraft transactions exceeded the 10-year Q2 average by 14.0%, and reached the 3rd highest Q2 of the last 10 years.

Preowned inventory stood at around 430, 5.8% of the active fleet, below the 10-year average of 7.2%. The inventory was at its lowest level since February 2024.

Preowned business jet transactions rebounded as supply remains constrained, with median values up 5% year-over-year and 2% year-to-date.

By comparison, average asking prices for such jets, based on listings, declined year over year by 29% to $4.8 million.

This decline is caused by younger, higher-value jets trading and holding up prices, while older, lower-value jets remain on the market, dragging the average asking price down.

Heavy jets led the market, with Q2 transactions up 43.8% year-over-year, at over 200 transactions, and 44.2% above the 10-year average.

By Q2 end, heavy jet asking prices averaged $10.5 million, down 34.6% year over year.

For super-mid jets, Q2 pre-owned transactions were flat year-over-year, about 80, but above the 10-year average by 11.6%. Median values rose 6% year over year amid tight supply.

Average asking prices averaged $7.4 million, flat year-over-year, but 11.9% above Q1.

Pre-owned medium jet transactions in Q2 were about 115, up 13.6% year-over-year, but came 5.6% below the 10-year average.

It was the only jet segment to fall short of its historical average in Q2.

Asking prices remained under pressure, at $2.8 million, down 25% year-over-year and up 5.5% over Q1.

Light jets also saw their Q2 transactions rise 5.3% year-over-year, at about 260, and 10.3% above the 10-year average.

Though at almost 700, inventory tightened to its lowest levels since March 2024.

Asking prices for pre-owned light jets were $2.5 million, down 12.4% year-over-year, but rose 2.9% over Q1.

Preowned turboprop transactions were around 330, up 3.5% year over year and exceeding the 10-year average by 3.8%.

Pre-owned turboprop inventory also tightened with 4.8% of the fleet, around 780, for sale.

Median values were flat over Q1, and down 8% year-over-year.

Asking prices have held steady year-over-year and over Q1, at $2.1 million.

“Inventory remains the defining feature of this market,” said Chris Skurat, AMSTAT Director of Sales, in the report. “With transaction counts up across most segments this quarter, sellers in tightly supplied segments like heavy jets are in an especially strong position.”
