Choices, choices, choices. In the private jet card and membership sector, the diversity of offers continues to grow. Directional Aviation yesterday announced it is expanding its coverage of the private aviation travel market by introducing its first pay-as-you-fly membership program. The company, which owns Flexjet, Sentient Jet and Skyjet is using the latter to introduce the new product, billed as Skyjet Explorer. Flexjet sells fractional ownership shares and leases, plus jet cards; Sentient focuses exclusively on jet cards and until now Skyjet had been an on-demand charter provider.

VistaJet, which last month secured $150 million in new financing, making it a self-proclaimed Unicorn, a privately held company with a billion-dollar valuation, delivered more good news this morning. For North America, it said new program customers increased three times year-over-year, new program hours increased 146%, flight departures increased by 30%, and program hours increased 210% quarter over quarter. It also noted 45% of program customers who have joined in past 12 months have booked additional hours. As a result, it is increasing its U.S. based fleet by 50%.

Private jet activity spiked by 28% during the solar eclipse
Monday’s full solar eclipse was accompanied by a 28% spike in private aviation flight activity, according to TRAQPak, a service that tracks flying by private aircraft. According to a press release, there were 10,606 private aviation flights on August 21, 2017, compared to an average of 8,276 flights on previous Mondays during the year.
