The “all you can fly” private jet membership airline is trying to appeal to business travelers
Surf Air in Europe took flight at the beginning of the summer with leisure routes from Luton Airport outside London to Ibiza and Cannes. Then last month it launched Zurich, albeit two roundtrips per week. Now, the carrier says beginning November 13 it will increase its Luton-Zurich roundtrips to daily on the weekdays. The new schedule better supports Surf Air’s appeal to business travelers.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday departures from London leave at 7:25 am and arrive the Swiss city at 9:55 am. Tuesday and Thursday flights depart at 6:15 pm and arrive 8:45 pm.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday departures from Zurich leave 10:25 am returning to London at 10:55 am while Tuesday and Thursday flights depart at 9:15 pm landing at 9:45 pm.
The new schedule is designed to appeal to executives who want to do quick overnight trips. Surf Air requires passengers to be at the airport 15 minutes prior to departure. Flights depart from Signature Flight Support at Luton and Execujet Aviation at Zurich’s main airport, both facilities used by private jet passengers. By not using the main commercial terminal, passengers save time. When looking at total time for the journey, Surf Air can cut time spent in half.
Last week, Surf Air offered top-tier members of key frequent flyer programs in an attempt to gain trial. Earlier this year its U.S. cousin acquired Texas-based RISE in an attempt to expand its membership concept beyond California. In Europe, Surf Air is using Embraer Phenom 300s. In the U.S. it uses the Pilatus PC-12.
Surf Air offers options to buy seats by the flight but mainly focuses on an “all-you-can-fly” membership model. It’s current Prime Membership is 3,150 GBP per month ($4,154) and enables to fly European and U.S. routes.
JetClass, which is also offering scheduled private flights using FBOs to cut travel time, says it added seven routes in September while JetSmarter continues to market shuttles and empty leg flights in Europe.
