Flexjet LLC said it is continuing its sponsorship as official Aviation Partner for the St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship taking place December 14-17, 2017. Flexjet once again will sponsor the defending championship-winning Flexjet Polo Team.
“We appreciate the spirit of competition within polo and the energy the game brings to Aspen,” said Flexjet Vice President of Global Marketing Christopher Bero. “In line with our offering as the world’s finest and most personalized provider of private jet travel, the St. Regis Snow Polo World Championship is one of the winter season’s most distinctive events in one of America’s most beautiful venues. We look forward to another opportunity to support the passion points of our Owners.”
The event is the only professional snow polo championship in North America drawing a high-profile audience of fans to Aspen to watch some of the world’s best players compete. The Flexjet Polo Team won the 2016 Championship, defeating the U.S. Polo Association team in a dramatic final.
This year’s tournament events include:
On Thursday, December 14, a cocktail party at the St. Regis Aspen Resort in which the teams and the tournament draw will be presented.
On Friday, December 15, Round Robin Classification Matches will take place at the Aspen Valley Polo Club in nearby Carbondale, Colorado.
On Saturday, December 16, Rio Grande Park, which is the largest multifunctional park within Aspen’s city limits, will host the action with a Press Day, followed by the St. Regis Cup (5th/6th place match).
On Sunday, December 17, the Consolation Final takes place. It will be followed by the 2017 World Snow Polo Championship, including award and trophy presentations.
Spectators at the St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship will enjoy a premium view of the field for all matches in Flexjet’s heated, on-site VIP tent.
“Aspen annually ranks among Flexjet Owners’ 10 most favored destinations in both summer and winter, and Snow Polo is a great way to kick off the holiday season surrounded by friends, family, snow and the best in polo,” said Flexjet Vice President of Owner Experience Megan Wolf. “For our Owners heading to Aspen for Snow Polo, the experience begins the minute they board one of our jets with a cup of hot chocolate or favorite winter cocktail waiting to get them in the spirit.”
Sponsorship of the Flexjet Polo Team has been ongoing since 2014. The team, captained by Melissa Ganzi, had one of its most successful campaigns in 2017, compiling a strong record in polo matches around the nation.
The Aspen Valley Polo Club will host the St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship for the fifth consecutive year. Snow polo, first played in 1985 in St. Moritz, Switzerland, is a variation of the more familiar version of the sport that is played on turf seasonally in U.S. venues such as Aspen, Florida, Hawaii and Long Island. The winter version of the game is adapted to snowy conditions through a smaller field, three-player teams, cleated horseshoes for better traction and a larger, lighter, red-colored ball.
In addition to Aspen, snow polo is played in other globally renowned winter sports locations. Such locales include St. Moritz, Switzerland; Bariloche, Argentina; and Cortina, Italy, all of which can be reached directly from North America via Flexjet’s fleet of long-range private jets including the Bombardier Global Express, the Gulfstream G450, the Gulfstream G650 and the Gulfstream G500, for which Flexjet will be the North American launch customer and which will be available early in 2018.
