U.S. private jet flights surged leading into the July 4th holiday as airlines canceled and delayed thousands of flights.
Leading into the American July 4th holiday, global private jet flight activity increased by 4% week-to-week gain with 76,521 private jet flights.
Flights for the week ending July 2, 2023, were just 1% below 2022’s levels.
In the U.S., where there were 51,282 segments flown, activity was even with last year.
It came as thousands of airline flights were delayed and canceled.
With 4,854 flights, Texas posted a 1% year-over-year increase in private jet flights for the week.
Europe also saw a gain, up 2% with 16,263 flights, 7% under 2022 levels.
South America, with 1,371 flights, had a 21% week-to-week gain and was 32% ahead of last year.
Over the past month, South American private jet flights were 26% ahead of 2022.

Charter and fractional operators flew 40,375 segments in Week 26, an 8% gain over Week 25 and 2% below 2022’s levels.
The U.S. saw 26,663 flights, a 10% increase from the previous week and 1% above 2022’s levels.
With 2,977 charter and fractional flights, Florida was 3% ahead of the same week in 2022, while Texas, with 2,127 segments, was 6% higher.
However, looking back over the past four weeks, the pair were 6% and 3% under 2022’s levels.

In Europe, charter and fractional operators clocked 11,752 segments, 6% up week-to-week and 8% below last year.
Richard Koe, Managing Director of WingX, says, “The Independence Day holiday over the long weekend saw record business jet activity, even surpassing last year, and for the full week 26, midpoint to 2023, activity was flat year on year. This is an improvement on the month of June, which was 5% off June 2022. Europe is considerably weaker, with the U.K. seeing a steep drop-off from last June.”
