Tropical Storm Hilary helps send California back to 2019 levels of private jet flight activity

Global private jet flight activity (67,743 departures) dropped 2% week-to-week, putting it 4% below 2022.

Giving a broader perspective, WingX Managing Director Richard Koe says, “Twenty-seven days into August 2023, global business jet and turboprop sectors are down 3% compared to the same period last year, still 14% ahead of August 4 years ago. Comparatively, Scheduled Airline activity is 18% ahead of last year, 4% short of August 2019.”

In the U.S., its 49,140 departures were 4% down from the previous week and 5% below 2022.

Perhaps impacted by its first tropical storm in 84 years, California saw flights drop 13% week-to-week, putting them 19% below 2022.

For the week ending Aug. 27, 2023, Europe (13,278 segments) was up 8% week-to-week, yet still 7% under last year.

Both South America (+ 25%) and Asia (+ 16%) saw double-digit growth compared to Week 34 last year.

The charter and fractional market accounted for 34,348 flights, down 3% from the previous week and trailing 2022’s activity by 5%.

The U.S. (22,408 departures) was 7% down from Week 33 and the same amount under Week 34 in 2022.

European fractional and charter flights (10,040 segments) were just 3% below last year.

South America (+39%) and Africa (+ 35%) saw big increases compared to 2022, but on small numbers, 36 and 250 flights, respectively.
