Magellan Jets segments jet card offerings

Magellan Jets is splitting its jet card offering into category and aircraft specific programs.

Boston-based Magellan Jets is segmenting its jet card offerings into a premium aircraft-specific program and the more typical cabin category.

The new jet card products are in addition to its membership and corporate programs.

“Our asset-light business model enables us to adapt quickly to market changes and consistently deliver unparalleled service,” says President Anthony Tivnan.

He says changes are designed to position the two products to differentiated market needs.

The Premium Jet Card offers access to specific aircraft types: the Phenom 300, Challenger 300/350, and Gulfstream 450/550.

The Category Jet Card offers access to light, midsize, super-midsize, and large cabin private jets.

You can upgrade or downgrade based on your mission.

You can also crossover between the programs.

If you join the Category Jet Card and want a Phenom 300, you can switch over; however, you do so in the terms of the program you joined.

So what are the differences?

The Category card has 40 peak days versus 20 in the Premium program.

Premium rates include fuel surcharge, standard catering, deicing, and guaranteed complimentary Wifi.

There is also a 10% long-flight discount for flights over four hours if you join Premium.

Both provide 10% reductions for qualifying roundtrips.

Non-peak callout remains 48 hours, with a 25% premium to book up to 24 hours before departure.

The peak days booking window goes from one week to five days.

Funds can now be used for incidentals.

Rate locks increase with hours purchased.

The rate lock is 12 months at 25 hours, 18 months at 50 hours, and 24 months at 100 hours.

Multiple same-day aircraft usage is four, six, and eight jets simultaneously.

Jet card differences

There is also a 15-hour option in the Category program.

Category light jet daily minimum goes from 90 minutes, plus taxi time, to 78 minutes, plus taxi time.

Premium card customers see the Phenom 300 daily minimum reduced to 60 minutes, plus taxi time.

The light jet rate is $6,550 per hour, excluding the 7.5% federal excise tax, while the Phenom 300 rate is $9,375 per hour.

The current fuel surcharge for light jets is $737 per hour.

Both programs include the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, and Hawaii at a surcharge.

Magellan had previously offered specific aircraft options as part of a single jet card program.

Removed is the Hawker 800/850.

Tivnan says that while the popular midsize jet will remain in the Category inventory, it no longer fits alongside the Phenoms, Challengers, and Gulfstreams he sees as positioned as an alternative to fractional ownership.

The company is working on revamping its Explorer Membership program to be launched later this year.
