Apps tout direct-booking and and do-it-yourself, while charter brokers help consumers navigate the complexities of private jet charters.
With general media focusing on direct-to-consumer charter platforms, cheap empty legs, and instant-booking charter apps, consumers are often uninformed about the critical role private jet charter brokers play, according to Chapman Freeborn.
“Clients are not simply booking an aircraft; they are seeking confidence that every aspect of the journey will be handled correctly from the outset,” per Chapman Freeborn.
The company says, “Brokers play a critical, though often unseen, role by coordinating the entire journey and ensuring that every element of a charter flight stands up to operational and regulatory scrutiny.”
Chapman Freeborn provides private air passenger and cargo charter services for major corporations, governments, NGOs, relief agencies, and high-net-worth individuals.
It is part of Avia Solutions Group, which operates across six continents.
First-time and infrequent users may not fully understand what happens behind the scenes on a charter flight.
Vice President Claudia Krajhanzl says, “Charter aviation is about far more than flying from A to B.”
She says, “It requires a deep understanding of regulations, operational realities, and risk management.”

While booking a private jet may appear straightforward, each flight involves aligning aircraft availability with route permissions, crew duty limits, airport capabilities, insurance requirements, and local regulations that can vary widely by country.
Rather than simply sourcing lift, brokers act as coordinators.
They translate a client’s travel request into an operationally viable solution.
They select operators based on reliability, compliance, and customer needs, and then manage the process from initial planning through completion.
Krajhanzl says, “Our role is to look beyond availability and price.”
That includes verifying the operator’s Air Operator Certificate, insurance coverage, regulatory approvals, and even financial stability.
She says while new entrants often position brokers “as intermediaries focused primarily on margin,” good brokers are investing the margin back into processes and trip support.
Apps and platforms stress the do-it-yourself aspect of booking private jet charter flights.
Krajhanzl says, “Ultimately, a broker’s role is about accountability.”
She adds, “Clients rely on us to deliver compliant, reliable solutions, particularly in complex markets.”
