Trump Visit To New York To Impact Private Jet Flights As Far Away As Kentucky

President Trump’s trip to his Bedminster Golf Course will restrict private jet flights in the New York area this weekend.

By Doug Gollan, May 2, 2017

President Donald J. Trump’s expected visit this weekend to the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey will have a significant impact on private jet travel.

According to NBAA, Bedminster Temporary Flight Restrictions will be in force. Specifically, west departure gates will be shut off for Teterboro, Morristown and Essex County airports and four of the five west departure gates for Westchester County and La Guardia. Additionally, a major arrival route into Morristown and Teterboro will be closed.

The Kentucky Derby, scheduled to be run on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, typically attracts several hundred private jets, with a significant number coming from New York.

There will be significant route impacts in and out of many of the New York City area airports associated with the Bedminster, New Jersey Presidential TFR.

The 10-mile inner ring of the TFR lies just west of the New York City area in North Central New Jersey. To manage the loss of useable airspace west of the New York area for General Aviation operations, the FAA facilities will have to enforce required reroutes around the affected airspace when the TFR is active. This will affect both standard arrival routes and departure routes. Specific impacts along with the mitigation plans are noted as follows.

New York Departure Impacts

General Aviation departures out of Newark (EWR) and the Newark Satellites (TEB/MMU/CDW/LDJ) will not have access to any of the five west departure gates (ZIMMZ, NEWEL, LANNA, PARKE and BIGGY). Flight Operators will need to file routes utilizing the north departure gates (COATE, NEION and GAYEL) or the south departure gates (WHITE or DIXIE).

General Aviation departures out of New York La Guardia (LGA) and Westchester/White Plains (HPN) will not have access to four of the five west departure gates (NEWEL, LANNA, PARKE and BIGGY). Flight operators will need to file routes utilizing ZIMMZ (west gate), COATE, NEION, GAYEL (north gates) or the south departure gates (WHITE, DIXIE or BEADS).

The east departure gates (thru Boston Center) will be accessible and should not be directly affected by the TFR.

Flight operators should note that the SERMN SOUTH Playbook route is recommended for flights operating to the DC Metro airports.

Tower Enroute Clearance Routes

No Tower Enroute Clearance routes via SBJ (V3), FJC (V6 & V162), ETX (V30), BUSKY, SAX V249 SBJ @ 8,000’, BWZ @ 4,000’ and SBJ Overflights will be authorized.  Aircraft will be rerouted by the towers via:  SAX COATE V188 LVZ (Destination) Alt 080/090/100 or via V16

New York Arrival Impacts

General Aviation operators will not be able to utilize the JAIKE arrival (standard arrival from the south) into the Newark Satellite airports (TEB/MMU/CDW). The following routes should be filed in lieu of the JAIKE arrival:

  • From DC Metro airports, reroute via DQO V29 ETX FJC PENNS STW @ 9000’

  • From other ZDC airports and CHS/SAV, reroute via ZIZZI DRIFT WAVEY GWENY MAD MOBBS V292 SAGES V489 COATE (Handoff to ZBW @ FL250)

  • Via/through Washington Center (not from airports in ZDC airspace), reroute via J220 VALLO J220 FORTT FQM FQM3

  • From Atlanta/Jacksonville/Miami Center Airports including CAE (except CHS/SAV), reroute via ROD KLYNE Q29 JHW LVZ4 (expect FLORIDA TO NE 3 Playbook)

  • From Caribbean Origins (not through ZDC), reroute via MOUGH DONAA OWENZ GWENY MAD  MOBBS V292 SAGES V489 COATE

  • From Caribbean Origins (through ZDC), reroute via DIW J174 ZIZZI DRIFT WAVEY GWENY MAD MOBBS V292 SAGES V489 COATE (handoff to ZBW @ FL250)

FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) Flight Advisories will be issued during the TFR to outline required routes both in/out of the New York area. These Flight Advisories can be accessed via the two FAA webpages listed below:
