In the world of private jet charter and Jet Cards where credit cards aren’t always accepted, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies may play an important role.
As we have previously reported, more and more private charter companies are accepting cryptocurrencies for payment, however, Florida-based Airstream Jets has said its first Jet Card via the new blockchain based way of payments. The Jet Card was sold to the CEO of a new hedge fund for crypto-based investing on February 16th, but not previously disclosed.
“I found every aspect of the transaction very impressive. The speed, cost, and ease of the transfer were eye-opening and superior to processing a credit card payment,” Peter Maestrales, chief executive of Airstream Jets says, noting, “Adding cryptocurrency to our list of acceptable payment methods has been on our radar for some time now. We noticed how certain characteristics, such as transparency, quantifiability and simplicity, which have been making Bitcoin popular, are also some of the same characteristics that have made the Distance Card very successful. So, it just seemed like a good fit and in late 2017 we took the initiative to set up the ability to accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Litecoin (LTC).”
Airstream’s Jet Cards are not priced by hours but instead uses a mileage-based formula.
