The only entrant from aviation to make Luxury Daily’s 2022 Women to Watch list is Stephanie Chung of Wheels Up.
The private aviation provider’s chief growth officer told Luxury Daily, “Hospitality will become an act of empathy, not just a form of service, and luxury will become less about material products and more about meaningful experiences”
She says the favorite part of her job is, “Mentoring the next generation of leaders, especially young women looking to join the aviation industry.”
Chung says, “I always start by giving two pieces of advice that is critical to anyone’s success. First, know that some of the most important decisions that will impact your career progression are made without you in the room, so always be focused on building a positive, personal brand for yourself. And, second, if you get a seat at the table, be prepared to participate – there is a reason you were invited. Speak up.”
She adds, “At Wheels Up, we are committed to making sure that everyone knows that they have a seat on our aircraft, whether you are a woman, a person of color, or a member of the LGBTQ+ community. All are welcome at Wheels Up, and I hope the industry will follow our lead.”
Chung began her aviation career working on the ramp for USAirways at Boston’s Logan Airport. At Flexjet she became the first female vice president. At JetSuite she was the first black female president of a major private jet operator.
Chung joined Wheels Up last year to spearhead its efforts to attract clients from previously untapped diversity markets.
She is one of several top female executives at the New York-based private aviation company. Former Delta Air Lines executive Gail Grimmett is chief experience officer. Hilton alum Laura Heltebran is the chief legal officer, and former GE HR exec Francesca Molinari is chief people officer.
