A mystery customer placed a firm order for 50 Challenger and Global aircraft from Bombardier, it was announced earlier this evening.

According to the OEM, it comes with a first-of-a-kind service agreement.

The private jets and services are valued at $1.7 billion.

Deliveries will begin in 2027.

Bombardier noted, “The customer has elected to remain anonymous before unveiling their offering in the marketplace.”

The order is from a first-time customer, according to the announcement.

There are also “70 new aircraft purchase options.”

If all purchase options are exercised, the combined value of the aircraft and service agreements would exceed $4 billion.

Bombardier President and CEO Eric Martel said, “This significant order underscores the competitive advantage Bombardier’s full scope of products and services brings to customers throughout the entire aircraft lifecycle, from design to delivery, then throughout the in-service journey.”

He continued, “We build trust each day with each customer thanks to dedicated team members around the world who ensure their consistent satisfaction,” adding, “Our more than 18,000 Bombardier employees are proud to welcome this new, important customer to our family.”

Bombardier Private Jet Types

The current family of Challengers includes the Challenger 3500, a super-midsize jet.

The Challenger 650 is an entry-level, large-cabin aircraft.

Its family of Global aircraft provides ultra-long-haul range, including the Global 5500, Global 6500, Global 7500, and the latest, the Global 8000.

The initial order of 50 super midsize, large, and ultra-long-haul jets will make the mystery buyer a significant player, and it could be a new name in the industry.

Who’s Out

The industry’s three largest private jet flight providers are all Bombardier customers.

In two previous announcements regarding orders from unnamed customers, the buyers were revealed to be VistaJet and NetJets.

NetJets currently flies 82 Globals, 87 Challenger 3500 derivatives, and another 56 Challenger 650s.

It also has 10 Falcon 2000 large cabin jets and around 350 super-midsize jets from Textron Aviation.

That part of the fleet includes Latitudes, Longitudes, and Sovereigns.

As of earlier this year, Flexjet and Vista Global operators both had over 175 super-midsize or larger aircraft.

NetJets currently holds options for over 1,700 new private jets with Embraer, Textron Aviation, and Bombardier.

In February, Flexjet signed a firm order with Embraer valued at $7 billion.

Possible Buyers

A possibility would be a start-up from the Middle East, where Saudi Arabia has recently opened its domestic private aviation charter market to foreign owners.

Other possibilities could include India, where the Tata Group has over 470 Airbus and Boeing jetliners on order for Air India.

Based on list prices, that deal was valued at $70 billion.

Its TajAir unit operates several private jets to support its luxury hotel group, mainly for flights within India.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported Air India is in talks with Boeing and Airbus for up to 200 narrowbody airliners.

Bombardier delivered 146 private jets in 2024.
