Development of the G650 began in 2005, with the first prototype making its maiden flight on November 25, 2009. The aircraft underwent an extensive testing and certification process, receiving its type certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in September 2012.
In 2014, Gulfstream introduced an extended-range version of the G650, known as the G650ER. The G650ER features additional fuel capacity and improved engines. The G650ER received its type certificate from the FAA in 2015.
The cabin of the G650 is 53.6 feet long, 7.4 feet wide, and 6.4 feet high. It can be configured to seat up to 19 passengers, but typical configurations accommodate 14 passengers. It has lavatories located at the front and rear of the cabin. The cabin features Gulfstream’s signature large windows.
The G650 is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR725 turbofan engines, which provide a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.925 and a range of up to 7,500 nautical miles (8,630 miles). It has a maximum takeoff weight of 103,600 pounds and a maximum altitude of 51,000 feet.
The price for a new G650ER is $78 million with used G650s in the $40 million range.
