Jet card or on-demand charter? Many private aviation travelers have multiple solutions, and while jet cards offer convenience and you are assured by the safety standards of the jet card program you buy into, the siren song of lower prices from charter brokers calls at least some of us. With the holidays coming up, we took a quick look at online charter broker Stratajet to see the best prices they could come up with.
We looked at some popular routes, leaving before Christmas and returning after the New Year.
Of course, as you view the quotes below, keep in mind that if there is a mechanical or a pilot gets sick, you will need to get a last minute requote, something that can dramatically increase the price and may include repositioning fees and crew per diems and overnight fees. You will also be billed for de-icing if needed, something that can run into the thousands of dollars. Some jet card programs include de-icing. You will also have to pay for catering. Stratajet claims its prices include all airport fees. With on-demand charter, you will also likely be responsible for extra charges due to diversions, something that various jet card programs may cover, which all goes to show, it pays to compare before you buy.
