Private jet operator, management and membership brand Wheels Up is joining with NFL all-star Russell Wilson to support Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Plan

The number of Americans who need food assistance is expected to double to 75 million as COVID-19 Coronavirus layoffs ripple across the economy

Wheels Up Founder and CEO Kenny Dichter was on CNBC’s Squawk Box this morning, but not to announce another acquisition. On the business channel, he joined with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in a Coronavirus relief effort.

Dichter says after seeing NFL stars J.J. Watt and Wilson, both Wheels Up ambassadors, each donate one million meals to Feeding America, he was inspired to join forces.

Wheels Up Founder and CEO Kenny Dichter this morning announces a donation of 10 million meals through Feeding America. He branded the effort meals up.

Branding the effort Meals Up, the Wheels Up initiative will supply 10 million meals. It will reach the food insecure and those facing hunger during the COVID-19 crisis through Feeding America, a hunger relief organization with an extensive network of food banks feeding the hungry across the country.

By leveraging the Wheels Up network of friends, members, investors, and ambassadors, Dichter says, “We are doing our part to inspire those with the means to do so to take action and help those who need it most during this difficult time.”

Wheels Up is already working with ambassadors Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Serena Williams, Joey Logano, Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez, Tim Armstrong, and David Adelman.

Dichter said Wheels Up is also using empty legs to transport emergency responders and critical care supplies.

Started in 1979 Feeding America donates over four billion meals each year out of food banks across the country.

Feeding America’s 200 food banks partner with more than 60,000 soup kitchens, food pantries, churches, and other partners to deliver food.

Over the next 12 weeks, COVID-19 Coronavirus will cause over $302 million worth of additional food needed. 98.6% of the charity’s total expenses are spent on the programs and services it delivers.

Online donations can be made via a special landing page on the Wheels Up website.
