The next generation of FlyExclusive leadership is in the air

Laura Grace Segrave is following in the footsteps of FlyExclusive Founder Jim Segrave both in the cockpit and on the ground.

Weeks before her 20th birthday, Laura Grace Segrave received her single-pilot type rating (CE525S) in the Citation Jet.

This was the fifth FAA check ride she has passed, starting when she earned her private pilot license a few days after she turned 18 years old.

She now holds a commercial, single & multi-engine license with an instrument rating as well.

She is the oldest daughter of FlyExclusive Founder, Chairman, and CEO Jim Segrave (pictured left, above).

Laura Grace is also a sophomore at the University of North Carolina, where, in her spare time, when she isn’t studying or flying, she also works at FlyExclusive.

Women In Aviation

The elder Segrave says of his daughter, “This remarkable accomplishment places her among a select few women — and possibly the only one her age — to ever achieve this milestone.”

He adds, “Laura Grace’s achievement is a testament to her relentless work ethic, maturity, and love for flying”.

While her father says, “She’s setting a new bar for what’s possible for young women in aviation,” the daughter is more modest, but enthusiastically wants to use the FlyExclusive platform to encourage more women to enter the industry.

“There are not a whole lot of women in the industry, and I’m not there yet, but I hope one day I can be a role model for other women, encouraging them,” Laura Grace tells Private Jet Card Comparisons.

The younger Segrave says that because of her father (who founded Segrave Aviation before selling it to Delta Private Jets in 2010, then started FlyExclusive in 2015), she has been around aviation her entire life.

However, she adds, “I never thought I wanted to be a pilot.”

That changed when she took her first lesson at age 16.

She earned her private pilot’s license three days after turning 18.

She received her instrument rating six months after that.

Six months later, she gained her commercial pilot’s license.

She earned her commercial multi-engine license three months later.

Two months before her 20th birthday, she earned a single-pilot type rating in the Citation Jet series (CE-525S).

She is also second in command, type-rated in the Citation Longitude (CE-700SIC).

She has around 500 hours so far.

The elder Segrave has 11,000 hours of flight time and an Airline Transport Pilot license with type ratings in seven jets, as well as commercial and instrument helicopter ratings.

Next Generation

Laura Grace says, “My dad really inspires me, and he’s what inspired me to get into aviation.”

In her spare time, she works in sales for FlyExclusive.

Her current project involves helping to launch the new Caravan option.

However, don’t look for Laura Grace to be your pilot anytime soon.

She notes she doesn’t have enough hours, and the economics student is also most interested in the business of business aviation.

Laura Grace says her goal right now is to gain more experience in more areas, including operations.

The oldest of four siblings, when asked if they will be following her footsteps in aviation and to FlyExclusive, she says, “I’m hoping they will. I will definitely encourage them,” adding, “Of course, I want them to do what excites them.”
