The Citation Latitude operated by NetJets was delivered in 2016 and was headed from Los Cabos to Austin when it crashed in Laredo, Texas.
A NetJets Citation Latitude crashed last night on a Texas highway.
Multiple media, including the Associated Press and CNN, reported that a person was killed in the accident.
Per the New York Post, Joshua Baer of Capital Factory was identified as the victim.
It is the first accident for the private jet unit of Berkshire Hathaway that resulted in a fatality.
There had been no U.S. fatal accident for a Part 91k fractional operator since at least 2006, according to previous reporting by Aviation International News.
N523QS had departed Los Cabos, Mexico, bound for Austin, Texas, before crashing on a highway in Laredo, Texas.
According to an airport executive, it was diverted to Laredo, Texas, due to a mechanical issue.
The Citation Latitude had operated three flights earlier that day.
It started in Denver at 10:21 am Mountain Time, flying to Scottsdale.
From Scottsdale, it flew to Ensenada, Mexico, according to Flight Aware.
The 2016 super-midsize jet then arrived in Los Cabos at 4:05 pm. mountain time before departing for Austin at 6:19 pm.
In a prepared statement, NetJets wrote:
‘We can confirm a NetJets aircraft, tail number N523QS, was involved in an accident in Laredo, Texas, late Tuesday evening. We have received reports of injuries and a fatality related to the accident and are working with local law enforcement to confirm details. Our immediate concern is for the well-being of our Crewmembers, our passengers, and their families during this time. We are activating our crisis response and family support teams to support those affected and their loved ones, and we are deploying a team of experts to the site of the accident. The NTSB has been notified and is investigating. Until investigators release information or findings, NetJets cannot comment further and will not speculate on the cause of this accident.’
Per other reports, Jose Baeza of the Laredo Police Department said the private crashed on Loop 20 near the Texas-Mexico border.
The AP reports “Dashcam footage posted on social media showed the aircraft careening down the highway, taking out a light post before coming to a stop. It came to a rest not far from the Laredo International Airport.”
Footage on Facebook shows police working to open a cockpit window as the front boarding door opens, with at least one passenger emerging.
NetJets operates 261 of the Textron Aviation Cessna-made entry-level super-midsize jets.
The airplane seats seven passengers in the cabin.
An eighth passenger can be accommodated via a belted lavatory seat.
NetJets is the largest private jet operator in the world.
It operates around 1,400 flights per day.
