Surf Air signs its second contract to sell its OperatorOS software, while also appointing Barrett Brown as SurfOS’s new president.
Surf Air Mobility Inc. signed its second contract for another operator to use OperatorOS. The software’s second customer is Orlando-based Skydance Air.
Surf Air has also appointed Barrett Brown as its new president.
He previously held executive roles at Turion Space and Palantir Technologies.
SkyDance Air has become the second jet operator to sign a contract to use Operator OS.
Like SprintBach Aviation before them, the operator will pay per-flight fees to Surf Air for each flight run through the platform.
SkyDance is a charter jet operator headquartered in Orlando, Florida.
It operates three Cirrus Vision SF50s under its FAA Part 135 certificate.
“SkyDance has always taken a technology-forward approach to our operations,” said David Hackett, SkyDance president, in a Surf Air press release.
Hackett continued:
‘As we continue to scale, OperatorOS gives us an opportunity to build on that foundation with a platform designed specifically for the needs of a growing Part 135 operator. We’re excited to partner with Surf Air Mobility and bring additional capabilities and insights into our operation.’
In a press release, Surf Air mentioned that OperatorOS users will also add supply and operational data to SurfOS.
SkyDance Air is owned by similarly Orlando-based The BluWater Group.
BluWater is a private equity firm specializing in luxury, including real estate, marina development, aviation, hospitality, and yacht chartering and brokering.
In a separate press release, Surf Air announced they were appointing Barrett Brown as SurfOS president.
The company said it wanted him to lead a go-to-market strategy and commercial expansion for its AI-enabled software operating system.
“I spent my career at Palantir scaling enterprise software into new markets,” said Brown in a Surf Air press release. “And I’m looking forward to repeating that success at SurfOS as we build a massive business.”
Brown continued:
‘SurfOS is solving real operational problems with modern software that will be the digital infrastructure for the future of private aviation and the next generation of Advanced Air Mobility.’
Per his LinkedIn, Brown was an Advanced Projects Advisor at California-based Turion Space for almost two years.
Before that, he spent six months as an executive with Maxar Technologies, another defense and space manufacturing company.
He also spent ten years at Palantir Technologies, first as an engineer, and then as an executive and head of Asia.
Palantir underpins SurfOS’s software.
Regarding SurfOS’s commercial launch, Wheels Up was announced last June as the launch customer for BrokerOS.
No other customers have been announced for BrokerOS, or any so far for Surf Air’s third software product, OwnerOS.
