The HondaJet HA-420 (including the HondaJet Elite II and HondaJet Elite S) is a very light jet developed by the Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturer Honda Motor Company.
It is the first aircraft designed and developed by Honda Aircraft Company and was under development for several decades before its launch.
It features an over-the-wing engine mount design that improves fuel efficiency and reduces noise.
It can seat up to five passengers in the cabin and has a maximum cruising speed of 422 knots (486 mph). The aircraft is powered by two GE Honda HF120 turbofan engines, each providing 1,880 pounds of thrust.
Since its introduction in 2015, the HondaJet has won the Red Dot Design Award and the Aviation Week Technology Laureate Award. There were 230 HondaJet HA-420s in service as of 2023.
It is currently offered for fractional ownership and jet cards by Jet It, Jet Token, and Volato.
In 2022, Jet It’s CEO criticized HondaJet’s reliability in an email to its fractional fleet customers.

A new Honda Aircraft HA-420 HondaJet is listed at $5 million
Honda Motor Company’s pathway to the private jet market was a 30-year journey. It started researching the business jet category in 1986. It was then more than a decade before the next big step.
According to the Jay Honda blog, “Designer and company founder Michimasa Fujino sketched the HondaJet in 1997, and the concept was locked in in 1999. It wasn’t until 2004 that Honda approved the commercial development of the HondaJet, which ultimately made its world debut in July 2005 at the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh airshow. It was the following year that Honda announced it would commercialize the HondaJet.”
However, the first delivery wasn’t until 2015, when two units were delivered in December.
The HondaJet cabin offers configurations of four or five passenger seats. There is a fully enclosed lavatory located in the rear of the cabin. Configurations with four seats in the passenger have an extended galley.
Configurations with five seats have a fifth seat with the seatback flush against the cabin wall facing the forward entry door in place of where the extended galley would be. Some operators have the lavatory seat certified for passengers. The HondaJet can also be operated with a single pilot.
In those cases, you may see HondaJets marketed as having seating for up to seven passengers. However, the passenger cabin will always have four or five seats.
Most importantly, there is no difference in the space or size of the four-facing club seats in the four-seat configuration compared to the five-seat versions.
There are currently five models of the HondaJet HA-420.
The HondaJet Classic, HondaJet APMG, HondaJet Elite, HondaJet Elite S, and the HondaJet Elite II.
HondaJet Classic has a range of up to 1,223 nautical miles (1,408 miles), while the HondaJet APMG offers an increased range of up to 1,350 nautical miles (1,555 miles).
The HondaJet Elite, Elite S, and Elite II offer further improvements in range, with a range of up to 1,437-1,486 nautical miles (1,655-1,710 miles).
The cost for a new HondaJet is around $5.8 million. Used aircraft start for around $3.5 million.
