TRAQPak’s review of year-over-year flight activity (December 2018 vs. December 2017) indicates that December 2018 recorded a decrease of 0.5%. The results by operational category were mixed with fractional activity, again, posting the largest yearly increase, up 3.5% year over year. Part 91 activity posted an increase of 1.4%, while Part 135 activity declined for the seventh straight month, down 4.1%. The aircraft categories were mostly negative with mid-size jets posting the only increase from 2017, up 2.8%. Light jets posted a decrease of 1.6%, while large jets posted a 0.5% year over year decrease. Turboprops decreased 2.8%.
December business aviation flight activity posted an anticipated month over month decrease to finish down 7.7% from November 2018. Results by operational category were all down for the month, with the Part 91 segment posting the largest monthly decrease, down 10.3%. Part 135 flight activity posted a decrease of 5.1% and Fractional flight activity declined 4.5% for the month. Aircraft categories were all negative as well, with turboprops posting the largest decrease, down 9.1%. Mid-size jets followed with a decrease of 7.3% while light and large jets decreased 7.0% & 6.4% respectively.
Looking ahead, TRAQPak analysts estimate there will be a 0.6% increase in overall flight activity year over year in January 2019.
