July 4th private jet flights surged 44% compared to 2019

Private jet flights spiked over the July 4th holiday across the U.S. with some markets seeing triple digit increases

Private aviation flights over the July 4th holiday soared 44% higher than the same period in 2019, according to WingX.

“Even by the standards of the recent resurgence in business jet demand in the U.S., flight activity during this year´s Independence Day holiday was spectacularly strong. With all U.S. States unlocked, the leisure market looks set to reach new heights this summer,” said Richard Koe, WingX’s managing director

Big winners included Teterboro, Van Nuys and Las Vegas McCarran. Each saw a “huge rebound in business jet activity during the holiday,” with close to 500 departures over the four day period WingX measured.

Other big gainers were Dallas Love Field (up 111%), West Palm Beach International (98%), and William P Hobby Airport in Houston (87%).

Large cabin private jets saw the biggest rebound, with 77% more flights compared to same dates in 2019. Super midsize jet activity was up 66% vs 2019 while light jet flights surged 60%.

The Bahamas (up 63%) and Mexico (44%) were big winners in terms of international destinations.

Earlier this week NetJets suspended sales of jet cards, fractional shares and leases on its Phenom 300 and Citation XLS fleet, creating a waitlist. It had previously suspended jet card sales of the Latitude and its Classic cards as it sought to get ahead of surging demand.
