Delta Private Jets was sold to Wheels Up in 2020, and its website had been a redirect until recently, when it came back online.
The Delta Private Jets website at DeltaPrivateJets.com is back online, but it’s not what you think.
Delta Private Jets was sold by Delta Air Lines to Wheels Up back in 2019.
The deal closed in early 2020.
Since early 2021, DeltaPrivateJets.com had been redirecting to WheelsUp.com – until recently.
The message back in 2021 read, “Delta Private Jets now part of Wheels Up, you will be redirected to WheelsUp.com, where you will discover the most innovative private aviation solutions to fit your exact travel needs.”
As of midday today, DeltaPrivateJets.com was no longer a redirect.
The website was back online as Delta Private Jets.
Jettly CEO Justin Crabbe says he was recently approached to buy DeltaPrivateJets.com.
The charter broker had previously bought the former BlackJet domain.
While Crabbe says he passed due to legal concerns, he noted that the site was now back online.
Crabbe says seeing well-known, but discontinued websites being sold is not unusual.
He says domainers monitor dormant high-value websites.
They backorder them, so if the registrations aren’t renewed, they can often buy them before the previous owner even realizes it.
Crabbe says there is a process that former owners have to go through to reclaim their domains.
Google search is showing the fake website as the top result.
Perhaps a giveaway that it is not legitimate was the rates “as low as $4,750 an hour for a light jet.”
According to SEMrush, there are about 800 monthly searches for Delta Private Jets.
A Wheels Up spokesperson tells Private Jet Card Comparisons, “We are aware that an unauthorized website is currently live using the former Delta Private Jets domain.”
The spokesperson continues, “The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Wheels Up or Delta Air Lines.”
“We are taking steps to address the issue,” per the spokesperson, adding, “Customers should only engage through official Wheels Up channels and should not share personal, financial, or account information with any unaffiliated site.”
The current DeltaPrivateJets.com website has numbers that appear to be disconnected.
However, an issue could arise if the website is purchased by a party seeking to commit fraud.
In 2021, an unknown party put up a website, AccorJets.com.
The website claimed an affiliation with the Accor Hotels group, which was untrue, and was subsequently taken down.
Recently, Emirates warned about scammers posing as affiliates of the airline.
