Private jet charters by cabin size, aircraft type, and price

Private jet charter broker PrivateFly has released data on charter pricing, as well as preferred cabin size and jet models

While Brexit and some of Europe’s sputtering economies may be making headlines in the business press, Directional Aviation’s PrivateFly said it enjoyed a 26% jump for flights in Europe during the third quarter of 2019, compared to last year. 

Adam Twidell, PrivateFly’s CEO said, “Demand growth was generated from new and existing PrivateFly clients, and from our extended OneSky family (and) Our market-leading pricing, including the certainty offered by our fixed-route City Pairs offer on the Nextant 400XTi and Legacy 600.”

The company also released data on charter pricing, as well as preferred cabin size, jet models, and demographics.

According to PrivateFly, the Top 10 destinations for its clients is led by London, followed by New York, Nice, Ibiza, Paris, Milan, Palma de Mallorca, Zurich, Olbia, and Cannes.

The company also revealed details on pricing for private jet rentals, as well as the most popular private jets by type, cabin size, and who is flying on private flights, including children and pets.

Private Jet Charter Pricing by Jet Size

Private jet charter prices varied widely by aircraft type, ranging from around $10,000 to over $300,000.

  1. Large & Regional Airliners averaged £338,490 per trip
  2. Long Range & Super Midsize private jets cost £43,060 per trip
  3. Medium & Midsize private jets prices at £15,250 per trip
  4. Small Jets ran £10,550 per trip
  5. Turboprops cost an average of £7,810 per trip
How much do private jet customers spend?

The company says an average trip was 1.5 flights.

The most popular private aircraft was led by Small or Light Jets which captured nearly half of the market.

The Nextant 400XTi proved PrivateFly’s most popular private jet type driven by its use on the company’s City Pairs program.

Twidell says of the Embraer Phenom 300, “We saw more demand for the Phenom 300 this quarter too, a popular aircraft with our clients on both sides of the Atlantic.”

NetJets, Alliance Aviation, and Magellan Jets have all added dedicated Phenom 300 jet cards this year, while JetSuite said it plans to focus on the Phenom 300 phasing out its Phenom 100 memberships.

Who flies by private jet?

As part of its trend update, Private Fly revealed the following demographics:

  • 71% of private jet passengers were Male
  • The average age of private jet passengers was 42 years old
  • There were an average of 4.1 passengers per flight, down from 4.4 in 2018
  • 14% of passengers with children under 16
  • 3% of flights had pets aboard

PrivateFly also said only 2% of flights are booked the same day, with 13% the day before the flight, and 15% two to three days in advance. Nearly 1 in 5 customers (18%) booked their private jet flights 4-7 days in advance with another 15% from 8 to 14 days, and 15% 15 to 30 days out. Twenty-two percent of customers booked their flights more than a month in advance.
