The service follows a previous jet-sharing program by Jet Linx launched in 2019 that was suspended following the COVD pandemic.
Jet sharing is set to get a boost from a major player, as Jet Linx has revealed plans to enable members to buy and sell seats on its charter flights.
No formal announcement has been made.
However, the perennial top 10 operator, based on annual charter and fractional flight hours, shared the news on social media.
A spokesperson confirmed the offering.
MemberSeat Exchange is being called “an evolution of our original OpenSeat Exchange.”
Key features are available through the Jet Linx app.
Users can view empty seats, request and purchase seats, or offer to sell empty seats.
Per the social media post:
‘Private aviation designed around you—now with even more flexibility. Introducing the MemberSeat Exchange—our member-only flight-sharing experience, available exclusively in the Jet Linx App. The MemberSeat Exchange lets members request available seats on select Jet Linx flights—or offer empty seats on their own upcoming trips. All within our Jet Linx community. More flexibility. More value. Same Jet Linx Experience.’
A promotional flyer notes, “All client identities remain anonymous and confidential until seats are confirmed.”
It adds that participation is an optional feature for members.
Jet Linx previously allowed jet card members and managed aircraft owners to share flights operated under Part 135.
OpenSeat Exchange was launched in July 2019.
At the time, Jet Linx said its flights had 40,000 empty seats per year, signaling the market potential.
The service was dropped following the COVID pandemic.
However, the company believed the make-up of its customers, centered around nearly two dozen base locations, would give it critical mass to make the shared flights work.
Last month, it announced plans to restart its base partner program.
Illegal jet-sharing via online groups and third-party platforms has been a hot topic in the industry.
32.9% of Private Jet Card Comparisons’ subscribers say they are interested in shared private flights or buying individual seats on private jets.
