What is the Cessna Citation Sovereign?

Development of the Citation Sovereign began in 1998, with the goal of creating a super-midsize private jet that would offer a combination of comfort, performance, and range. The first prototype flew in 2002. It was certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2004. In 2013, Textron Aviation introduced an upgraded version known as the Citation Sovereign+.

What are the cabin dimensions of the Cessna Citation Sovereign?

The Sovereign cabin height is the same as the Excel/XLS at 5.7 feet with a width of 5.5 feet, but longer at 25.25 feet. It has a seating capacity for up to 9 passengers, with a lavatory at the rear of the cabin.

What is the range of a Cessna Citation Sovereign?

The Citation Sovereign and Sovereign+ are powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306D turbofan engines, which provide a maximum cruise speed of 460 knots (529 mph) and a range of up to 3,200 nautical miles (3,680 miles) for the Sovereign and 3,200 nautical miles (3,680 miles) for the Sovereign+. They have a maximum takeoff weight of 30,775 pounds and a maximum altitude of 47,000 feet.

How much does a Cessna Citation Sovereign cost?

When in production, the Sovereign was priced at around $19.5 million new. Used prices start at around $12.9 million.

Cessna Citation Sovereign reviews

What makes the Sovereign so popular? For starters, it will carry four passengers and ample luggage 2,847 nautical miles. It can take off from runways shorter than 4,000 feet and land at some shorter than 3,000 feet. Plus, it climbs like a bullet-4,000 to 5,000 feet per minute through the lower altitudes-without being a gas glutton.

The changes that passengers will notice are a combination of subtle improvements that add up to a better travel experience...Unless it’s pointed out, passengers might not notice that the double-club Ipeco seats are canted inward slightly (four degrees).

Aviation International News

The simple design of the Citation Sovereign is especially apparent when compared to the Citation X, which immediately preceded the Sovereign chronologically but has little crossover. Despite Cessna’s intentional focus on simplicity and reliability, the bread-and-butter approach to private jet design, the Sovereign still sports many new features never before used on the Citation line.
