A new Cessna Citation XLS is listed at $15 million
The development of Citation Excel began in the early 1990s. The Excel made its first flight in February 1996. It was certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in April 1998. In 2003, Textron introduced an upgraded version branded as the Citation XLS. In 2008, Textron introduced an upgraded version, the Citation XLS+. The Citation XLS+ NextGen includes a new interior design, avionics, and improved performance.
Mark Huber of BJT recalls, “Cessna’s plan for the midsize Citation Excel, an aircraft first announced in 1994, was to combine light jet economics and runway performance with a comfortable, stand-up cabin. That wasn’t a new idea; the manufacturer was sticking to its time-tested potion of evolutionary development based on simple and robust systems. In other words, it went to the parts bin. Cessna lifted the fuselage from the Citation III, which first flew in 1979. It basically borrowed the airfoil and horizontal stabilizer from the smaller Citation V, which first flew in 1987, and has its design roots in the Citation II, which first flew in 1977.”
The cabin height of the XLS is 5.7 feet, with a width of 5.5 feet and a cabin length of 18.5 feet. Seating configurations range from six to eight seats. The additional two seats are via a one or two-seat divan facing the entry door and in place of a larger galley. There is a lavatory in the rear of the cabin.
The Citation XLS has a range of about 1,539 nautical miles.
The Citation XLS Gen2 is priced at $15 million new, with preowned older version models from around $4.5 million.
