JSX marks 10 years of saving flyers from crowded airports

JSX currently operates 54 Embraer 135/145 jets and two ATR 42-600s as a public charter to 29 airports using private terminals.

JSX is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The company says it is “marking a decade of transforming short-haul air travel with a simpler, faster, and more seamless experience.”

Since its launch, JSX has been racking up awards.

The awards are both from flyers and in recognition of its positive workplace environment.

It has been awarded 5-star Regional Air Carrier status by the Airline Passenger Experience Association every year since becoming eligible.

Both Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure readers have recognized JSX as a favorite.

JSX is the first air carrier to earn Autism Aware recognition by Autism Double Checked.

CEO Alex Wilcox says, “Ten years ago, we set out to change the way people think about flying – and more importantly, how they experience it.”

He adds, “I’m deeply grateful to every customer, crewmember, and partner who has helped prove there truly is a better way to fly – one that values time, comfort, and genuine hospitality.”

JSX currently serves 29 destinations.

It serves 14 of the 25 airports with the most private jet flights, offering an alternative to full-charter flights.

Over one-third of Private Jet Card Comparisons’ subscribers are interested in similar by-the-seat and shared flights.

It operates a fleet of 54 Embraer 135/145 jets and two ATR 42-600s.

JSX has used turboprop aircraft to open new markets, most recently at Santa Monica Airport.

What is JSX?

JSX operates as a public charter.

It offers scheduled flights.

You can buy individual seats online, much like booking a big airline.

From there, it’s different.

There is free checked luggage, drinks, snacks, and Starlink WiFi.

However, its biggest innovation is the use of private terminals.

Flyers can check in as little as 20 minutes before departure.

Fares start at around $200 per seat.

The company stated:

‘Since its first flight in 2016, JSX has reimagined what flying can be, blending the accessibility of commercial aviation with the ease and convenience of private terminals. Growing from a bold startup into a category-defining operator, JSX has carried millions of Customers over hundreds of thousands of flights, setting a high standard for premium, attainable service in an industry fraught with hassle.’

JSX has also proven popular with pet parents flying over 100,000 pets in-cabin.

It recently launched its first loyalty program.

Challenges

The path has had turbulence.

In 2020, sister company JetSuite, which focused on full private jet charters and prepaid jet cards, went bankrupt.

Suite Key customers lost over $50 million in prepaid flights.

American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and major airline union groups have also sought to force JSX back to congested airport terminals.

So far, those efforts haven’t moved forward.

JSX’s future growth

For now, JSX has an “order intent” for up to 337 hybrid electric aircraft.

Five additional E145 jets and two additional ATR aircraft are expected to come this year.

Three more ATRs are scheduled to arrive in 2027.

JSX is privately held, but Wilcox has indicated it has now achieved profitability.

Back in 2024, he told a Jefferies conference that it was delivering double-digit EBITDA.

Wilcox cut his teeth working at Virgin Atlantic Airways before becoming the first employee at JetBlue under aviation legend David Neeleman.
