Wheels Up: A look back at its road to the New York Stock Exchange

By Doug Gollan, July 15, 2021

Renamed Wheels Up Experience is now trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol UP. Here’s how it got there…

It was a cold New York morning just over two-and-a-half years ago that Wheels Up founder and CEO Kenny Dichter announced on CNBC he had hired Bank of America and Goldman Sachs to explore strategic initiatives. Yesterday, he rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange, marking the private aviation provider’s first day as a publicly traded company.

During the past 30 months, Dichter has made five acquisitions, struck a wide-ranging partnership with Delta Air Lines, and recruited an all-star line-up of executive talent from both the industry and Fortune 500 companies. He’s also turned the membership seller into the second-largest operator of for-hire private aircraft. He’s added aircraft sales, management and even repairs as he seek to be the Amazon of private aviation. And of course, there’s democratization, with digital initiatives, shared flights and shuttles.

“More Netflix than NetJets,” Dichter likes to say.

It’s often hard to keep up with the seemingly nonstop flow of announcements, so below, we look back with links to our coverage.
